OVID
- Access through the UAB Virtual Desktop
OVID includes a sophisticated search engine for the MEDLINE database with a number of features not currently available in Pubmed. Databases
included as part of the OVID search group include: classic Medline, PreMedline, Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature
(CINAHL), Health & Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI) and Evidence Based Medicine Reviews including ACP Journal Club and parts of the Cochrane
Library. Access to OVID is limited to current UAB faculty, staff, and students through the Virtual Desktop.

- Basic
Search Interface
Keyword searching. By using the Entrez Date limit option, this interface allows you
to specify a time period to limit your searches to recent articles (as few as 30 days to
no limit on time).
- Clinical
Queries Interface
Generally used for clinical topics. One must decide the focus of the search: | therapy
| diagnosis | etiology | prognosis | in advance of using this
interface. If these categories do not pertain to your search, then use the Basic
Search Interface.
Lister Hill Library's online catalog of books, journal titles, and
audiovisual materials available in Lister Hill Library, West Pavilion Hospital Extension Library, and Reynolds Historical Library. Two options

If the information you require is not in your Digital Library, we suggest

not previewed the resources of these services): use
Medical Matrix to determine whether a web site exists that addresses your
topic. This type of search is analogous to using an online catalog in a print
library to find a book.
